Once a bright ball of green energy called the key, Dawn was tucked away by monks and eventually sent to the Slayer as a human sister for safe keeping. So over the course of the fifth season up until she finds out she's really the key, she is the ordinary girl next door type in the small town of Sunnydale. The sweet, bubbly kid sister looking to be a part of the group. But at end of season six to her current point, she's had to face some tough realities - being nearly sacrificed to open a hell dimension, experiencing the loss her mom, losing her sister for a time as well - that all cause her grow up a little a head of her time and gain some abandonment issues (that began as identity issues) on top of her sweet personality.
